Dental Sealants - Ottawa
What are sealants?
Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that are applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant bonds with the tooth, creating a barrier against germs and food particles.
Typically, we offer sealants to children once their permanent molars (back teeth) come through. However, sealants are available to any of our Ottawa patients who are at a high risk for cavities, including adults and younger children whose baby teeth have deep groves.
Sealants Procedure
The sealants procedure is very quick, and can be performed following your teeth cleaning. First, we will thoroughly clean and then dry the surfaces that are receiving the tooth sealants. We will use a small amount of acidic solution to roughen the surface of the teeth. Then, the solution is rinsed off, the teeth are dried again, and the sealant is painted straight onto your teeth.
Sealants are an effective way to protect your teeth from cavities. Of course, you should continue to brush and floss to maintain good oral health.
How Long do Sealants Last?
Sealants can last for more than 10 years. Every time you visit Nu Age Dental in Ottawa, whether for a cleaning or another service, we can check the condition of your sealants to see if they need replacing.
